Data Engineer / Network Traffic Analysis£500 - £550 per day | Inside IR35 | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid - 2 Days per Week in Islington, London83zero is recruiting for a Data Engineer / Network Traffic Analysis specialist to join a highly technical team working with large volumes of network and traffic data.This is not a traditional Data Engineering position. We are looking for someone who combines strong networking knowledge with hands‑on packet and traffic analysis, particularly using Wireshark, PCAP and tcpdump.You will be working at packet and protocol level, capturing, investigating and analysing network traffic before turning that information into usable data for further processing and analysis.What you'll be doingCapturing and analysing network traffic using Wireshark, PCAP and tcpdumpInvestigating network behaviour at packet and protocol levelAnalysing TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, ports, protocols and traffic flowsFiltering packet captures to identify patterns, anomalies and potential issuesTroubleshooting network connectivity, latency, routing and protocol issuesExtracting, transforming and analysing technical/network dataUsing Python and SQL to work with network, telemetry or data setsWorking alongside data, networking and security teamsSupporting cloud-based data and network environmentsWhat we're looking forYou should have strong hands‑on experience across:WiresharkPCAP / packet captureNetwork traffic analysisNetwork sniffingtcpdumpTCP/IPDNSHTTP / HTTPSNetwork protocols and troubleshootingPython and/or SQLExperience with GCP / Google Cloud, BigQuery, Pub/Sub or Dataflow would be beneficial, but it is not essential.
