This role is offered on a contract basis, with strong potential for long-term or permanent placement based on performance and client need. Responsibilities Conduct daily shipboard safety walk-throughs on assigned vessels, on and off site, to verify that all work, including subcontractor operations, complies with federal, state, and local regulations and site safety policies. Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, and hearing protection dispensers. Maintain SDS records for active contract availabilities and manage lab analysis of paint and insulation samples. As the Shipyard Safety Inspector, prepare written reports on inspections, accident investigations, injury and illness statistics, and employee safety concerns. Help develop work instructions, procedures, and training materials, and lead or attend safety training events. Requirements Minimum 3 years of experience performing Safety Inspector duties or equivalent safety enforcement in industrial plants, shipyards, or construction sites. High school diploma or GED with typically 4 years of directly related experience, or an associate's degree in an EHS-related field. Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1915 (Shipyard Employment) and 29 CFR 1910. Ability to identify and locate compartments aboard vessels. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with ship managers, production supervision, and craft employees. Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to obtain base access (DBIDS) as required by the military installation. Must hold a valid passport or be able to obtain one promptly. Must pass a vision exam covering near-vision acuity and color perception, repeated every 10 years. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Navy ship repair under NAVSEA Standard Items. OSHA maritime coursework such as OSHA 5410 (Maritime Industry Standards). Continuing education toward a Professional Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Additional Information Duties require daily entry into confined spaces, climbing ladders, working at heights, and walking scaffolding aboard vessels under repair. Up to 90% of work time is spent outdoors in a shipyard environment in all weather, with noise levels that are moderate to extreme for most of the day. Occasional exposure to vapors, gases, dust, welding fumes, and smoke is expected; respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds is required. Up to 30% travel may be required, including international travel. Schedules may vary based on production needs, and reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shipyard locations. Venture Dynamics is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.
